The Schools’ Apprentice Challenge is a FREE community initiative linking schools with local businesses & the voluntary sector. The initiative is delivered by Community Action Sutton, an organisation that supports charities throughout the borough.
The business challenge is to turn £100, loaned to schools, into as much profit as possible for charity. This initiative is inspired by 7 years of successful activity in Hertfordshire schools, where over 1600 young people have participated raising over £380,000 for local charities.
Participating schools select a Year 12 student team and are matched with a business Mentor. Mazars, a large accounting firms, with offices in Sutton are supporting the initiative by supplying business mentors for each school. Templates, including a student guide and business plan, are supplied to support the process. Teams, with support from their Mazar’s business mentor, produce a business plan for a fundraising venture and implement their idea raising funds for Sutton Giving, a cross borough initiative supporting the voluntary sector.
A final boardroom presentation, where students report back on the success of their venture to a panel of judges, will take place at Mazar’s offices on Wednesday 30th January 2019.
The activity launches in September 2018 and runs until December 2018. There are only 8 places available for high schools in Sutton. Each school may enter one team of 8 students.
This challenge represents a fantastic opportunity for students providing them with a real-life opportunity to gain hands-on commercial experience of setting up & running a business whilst gaining an insight into local issues thereby creating socially responsible young entrepreneurs.
